THE BIG RIDE
Dr. Mona El-Farra
Vice President of the Red Crescent Society for the Gaza Strip
Gaza Director of Middle Eastern Children Alliance
“With every mile you ride, you are protesting against 67 years of Israeli ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
You are sending a message to the Palestinian people in general and to the people of the Gaza strip in particular that they are not abandoned. You are bringing hope to millions of Palestine children for whom life has been scarred by trauma and fear. You are siding with millions of displaced 1948 Palestinian refugees who still have the keys to their homes from which they were uprooted by force. You are breaking barriers that separate human beings who should be equal regardless of race, colour or religion.
We dream of a day when we can welcome you to cycle in free Palestine to enjoy the beauty of our country that has been devastated by long decades of Israeli occupation, dispossession, and annihilation. We appreciate your solidarity; we salute you all for your humanity.”

I am supporting the Big Ride as it is essential to show the Palestinian people that we are appalled by the long and horrendous suffering they have endured at the hands of the Israeli government.
Hopefully this terrific event will go some way to forcing our government to wake up and take responsibility.
I wish all the participants a fun packed ride and may your bum be not so numb!
Executive Committee JfJfP
Jews for Justice for Palestinians (JfJfP) congratulates the organisers of the Big Ride from Edinburgh to London. This initiative builds on the growing public outrage against the Occupation and siege of and attacks on Gaza. This outrage was shown clearly in the huge marches in July and August 2014 against Operation Protective Edge and the thousands of letters sent to MPs that helped to bring about the House of Commons vote in October 2014 calling on the government to recognise Palestine.
The Big Ride will literally keep the momentum of awareness rolling, while raising funds for MECA, the Middle East Children's Alliance, which is working in particular on providing clean drinking water for the children of devastated Gaza.
One the most admired and respected UK filmmakers of his generation
"More and more people are becoming aware that justice for the Palestinians is the great cause of our time.
Let's see the green, red and black of the Palestinian flag making its way from Edinburgh to London!"
Grahame Morris MP
Chairperson of Labour Friends of Palestine and the Middle East
“It is an honour to express my full support for the Big Ride. This support is sent on behalf of Labour Friends of Palestine and the Middle East. This fundraising event is an amazing initiative, which highlights the needs of children, who are the most hurt, marginalized and vulnerable in any conflict.
I appreciate the organisers' efforts to highlight the struggles of suffering children. I salute you and send you the solidarity of the British Labour movement”
Endorsers for our 2015 event
British Conservative Party politician Member of Parliament for Reigate Surrey since 1997
I am delighted to support the Red Spokes Big Ride and congratulate all those taking part for their commitment to helping the children of Gaza whose lives have been traumatised by war and wanton destruction. I and many of my colleagues will continue to raise the plight of Palestinians in Parliament, but we also need all citizens to show their concern about the situation and their support for rebuilding broken lives. I wish all riders every success.
Sir Gerald Bernard Kaufman
One of our earlier supporters who unfortunately died last year. British Labour Party politician, who was a Member of Parliament since 1970
As one who has worked on behalf of the Palestinians for many years and having visited the Palestinian territories on parliamentary delegations on a considerable number of occasions, I give my strongest support for The Big Ride to take place in August from Edinburgh to London, to raise money for Palestinian children in Gaza.
This is a worthy cause and an exciting venture.
Professional racing cyclist. The Guinness World Record holder for fastest circumnavigation of the globe by bicycle and a lifelong passion for all things cycling.
Its blatantly obvious to recognize the parallels between Apartheid South Africa and the state of Israeli. Why is Israel allowed to control all Palestinian borders, imports, exports, and all movement between towns and cities, have two legal systems, where an Israeli settler and a Palestinian, accused of the same crime, will be sentenced differently.
The war crimes committed on a daily basis need to be brought to justice by the International community. This is an Israeli issue, not a Jewish one, many Jewish friends oppose this oppression.
This is why I wholeheartedly applaud this initiative to raise awareness of the situation in Palestine and help support the children’s charity MECA.
MEP for the North West of England - An active campaigner for equal rights and social justice.
I take my hat off to Dermot MacWard and fellow activist-cyclists. It's people like you who often put politicians and decision-makers to shame. Whilst some of my kind pontificate, prevaricate and posture you get on and DO things that make a practical difference. It has never been so urgent to raise the profile of the suffering experienced by children in Palestine. Last year's bombardment of Gaza by IDS destroyed an already fragile infrastructure and the situation in the West Bank continues to make daily life difficult for children living under occupation. By bringing people together in a mass cycle from capital city to capital city you are making a BIG statement about the need for a compassionate response to a humanitarian crisis. As a co-founder of a Children's Rights' parliamentary intergroup I want to thank you and all the people who do The Big Ride with you. I hope to cheer you on at some points along the way and offer any other help I can.
An English comedian, presenter, political activist and reporter.
"I support most mad adventures on a pushbike and most definitely support this. Palestine is living under a most oppressive military occupation, denied the most basic rights, the most basic utilities and has land constantly under threat of theft from settlers.
I hope the ride is enjoyable and raises money and awareness of the situation."
Director at Amos Trust
"Amos Trust is delighted to endorse The Big Ride. Freedom of movement is right that Palestinians are routinely denied. Amos Trust firmly believes that at this time our solidarity is key and what better place to start than on our bikes."
English actor, comedian, author and activist
"I'm delighted to lend my support to this vital cause. More needs to be done to raise awareness about the plight of Palestine and particularly its children at this difficult time.
The gruelling ride the many participants will be undertaking shows just how deep the people of Britain's feelings run on this issue and I am behind them one hundred percent."
Ged Holmyard, spokesman for Britain's original workers' co-operative bicycle retailer, Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op.
'Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op will do all we can to publicise the Big Ride to encourage 100s of cyclists to join this ride from Edinburgh to London this August to help raise money for MECA - the Middle East Children's Alliance, dedicated to delivering humanitarian aid to children in Gaza, Palestine.'
Convenor of the anti-war organisation Stop the War Coalition
The Big Ride is a great initiative, the chance to raise the issue of Palestine over more than 400 miles of cycling through towns and villages from Edinburgh to London.
Many of us have marched for Palestine. This is a way of showing practical solidarity to the Palestinian people. Stop the War coalition will be supporting it in every way that we can.
Vice-Chairperson of Global Minorities Alliance
It is my honour to express full support for the Big Ride on behalf of Global Minorities Alliance (GMA).
This fundraising event is in the aid of the Middle Eastern Children Alliance (MECA) which highlights the needs of children, who, are the most marginalized and vulnerable minority in any conflict.
We appreciate the organisers' creativity and efforts to bring the struggles of suffering children to broader attention and we invite you to support this great humanitarian cause.
Journalist and Filmmaker
'Congratulations for assembling together such a challenging and worthwhile event. The ride will be tough...some of it will be uphill. Nothing like the uphill struggle Palestinians fight every day for their human rights, but I hope people who see you going through their towns will realise that and contribute their support".

Labour Party politician ex MP for North Ayrshire and Arran
“I would like to pledge my support for the Big Ride for Palestinian Children.
The Palestinian people continue to suffer from the occupation on a daily basis often unreported by the media. I am delighted that so many activists have pledged to undertake the ride to raise money for Palestinian children and wish all those taking part every success.”
