The Big Ride for Palestine 2025
The Big Rides for Palestine 2025 have happened!

We rode in solidarity with Palestine again this year as the unimaginable two year genocide continues. With 1800+ ride bookings - more including Ireland - compared to a maximum of 250 on our previous multi day rides we were able to connect with people wherever we went.
The divisive political environment we are experiencing can sometimes make things difficult but our riders remained buoyed by the overwhelmingly positive response we received along the way. Our support from trade unions and community organisations has been outstanding.
As well as riding in solidarity and to raise awareness, we also fundraise for Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA) and Gaza Sunbirds. These are small projects working on the ground in Palestine who are very well known to us.
Our 2025 Rides
Our 1 day rides in 7 different cities took place over 5 weekends and were big, lively and inclusive, all with the welcoming and uplifting Big Ride vibe.
In addition to these rides there was a 2 day ride in Ireland on 16th and 17th August when 100+ cyclists joined forces for Ireland’s first all Ireland cycle for Palestine.
Manchester - 2 August
Another fantastic Big Ride for Palestine in Manchester with 250 riders signing up, about 1/2 being new riders, many amazed by the incredible solidarity amongst the riders. As always it worked because so many riders take on additional support roles.
Warm and enthusiastic support from the many neighbourhoods we cycled through, which mutually lifted everyone’s spirits.
Birmingham - 2 August
A great days ride out with an incredibly diverse group of 200 cyclists setting out from Millennium Point and riding via Coleshill and Meriden to a spectacular lunch stop and welcome in the ruins of Coventry Cathedral. Then back via Hampton in Arden to a fantastic reception along the Stratford Road and an uplifting event with food, music and speakers in St. Johns Church, Sparkhill.
Sheffield - 9 August
Over 216 riders joined us on our circular route from Sheffield through Chesterfield on a mix of road and beautiful canal paths and trails. We were welcomed back into Sheffield by an overwhelming and warm reception by the people of Darnall, including independent councillor Quais Al-Ahdal who successfully led the campaign to Boycott Coca-Cola throughout Darnall. We are proud to have welcomed folks from all walks of life and backgrounds, from veteran Big Riders to first time politically active protesters, from those coming from UK cities as far as Glasgow to Bristol, to asylum seekers from Eritrea and Palestine. Our diversity only strengthens our community, bringing us together in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
London Kings Cross - 9 August
Starting near Kings Cross Station the ride made its way through Islington and out onto Hackney marshes, before a lunch stop in Valentine's Park, hosted by Redbridge PSC. Our afternoon route took in some quiet traffic free miles and busy residential areas before coming to an end on Wanstead Flats.
Newcastle - 16 August
This was the second Big Ride in Newcastle. It tripled in size from last year with more than 230 riders taking part. The route took riders along the river Tyne and past Rafael, the only Israeli state owned arms factory in the UK, before going through four of the busiest areas in the city, ending with an amazing event at the Star & Shadow. The event had food, live music, several short Gaza Sunbirds films, Palestinian art, children's activities and merchandise for sale.
Ireland - 16/17 August
Newly formed cycle club with Cycle Ireland 'Lapwing and Sunbirds’, an apartheid free club, hosted the cycle from Dublin to Belfast. 210km, through 6 counties, hosted by 8 community groups and connecting with 1000’s.
While Palestine was at the forefront of the cycle, conversations were also had about the shared struggle between Ireland and Palestine and the legacy of British colonialism in Ireland, the continued occupation of the 6 counties in the North of Ireland and the interconnection of colonial powers.
Fundraising for MECA and Gaza Sunbirds in 2025
This summer we will be fundraising for Middle East Children's Alliance (MECA) our long term partner in Palestine and once again for Gaza Sunbirds. Details to follow.

MECA works for the rights and well-being of children in Gaza and in the West Bank. They have been working in Palestine for 36 years. With the support of The Big Ride for Palestine, MECA and local partners provide food parcels, hot meals, clean drinking water, and other essential aid to families impacted by Israel's attacks across Palestine. They will provide psychosocial support for traumatized children whenever it is possible including sports and other physical activities.

The Gaza Sunbirds are a team of para-athletes based in the Gaza Strip, founded by Alaa al-Dali, an Olympic hopeful cyclist, who was shot in the leg by an Israeli sniper in 2018, whilst watching the March of Return. Hoping to defy the odds to compete in Paris 2024, Alaa made a historic debut competing for Palestine in the 2024 Paracyling road World Championships in Zurich. Most of the Sunbirds team remain in Gaza where they are distributing aid to their communities.

Raising Solidarity with Palestine In Unions & Organisations
We encourage riders and supporters to raise solidarity resolutions in their unions, community groups and party wards. The 2025 Big Ride resolution
here gives us the opportunity to raise the issue of Palestine with the organisations we are involved in as well as raising funds to support low income riders and help keep our rides happening..
